The experience of Marco Giampaolo as coach of AC Milan could come to an end if the Rossoneri fail to win the upcoming matches.

The beginning of the new season has been very disappointing for AC Milan. With two victories and three defeats the Rossoneri are far from their initial goal of qualifying for Champions League.

Perhaps it is still too early but Marco Giampaolo so far has failed to transmit his ideas to the squad. There are also rumors that the new AC Milan coach has strong disagreements with Boban regarding the summer signings and especially the arrival of Rebic.

For his 4-3-1-2 formation to function, Giampaolo needs a trequartista, a really good one. After failing to purchase Angel Correa, AC Milan signed Rebic in the last day of the summer transfer window but the Croatian is a winger rather than an attacking midfielder.

The former Sampdoria coach for the moment is not risking his job but if AC Milan fail to win with Fiorentina, just like they did with Torino, the end of the line for Giampaolo could come closer than anyone thinks.

The names of his successor have already begun to circulate. According to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, at the moment, there are two names than can replace Giampaolo on AC Milan’s bench and both are available.

LUCIANO SPALLETI

The most likely candidate and the most viable one is former Inter coach Luciano Spalletti. The 60-year-old is free after his two-year experience at San Siro.

Spalletti has been coaching for nearly 20 years and besides Italy he led Zenit St. Petersburg for five years.

Spalletti is still under contract with Inter who sacked him at the end of last season and appointed Antonio Conte in his place. Inter currently lead Serie A alone with 15 points.

Pellegatti reports that Spalletti has taken a one year sabbatical. The former Inter and Roma coach is not actively in search of a new job but if AC Milan make an offer it would be hard to refuse.

MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI

Together with Spalletti, another coach that is reportedly being considered to replace Marco Giampaolo is Massimiliano Allegri.

Allegri, a familiar face from the past, coached AC Milan for three and a half year between 2010 and 2014. During that period of time Allegri won one Super Cup and one Scudetto, the last Serie A title won by AC Milan.

Allegri’s time at Juventus was even more glorious. He succeeded Conte and won five consecutive Serie A titles, also leading Juventus to two Champions League finals. Allegri is the coach with the highest win percentage (70,4%) in the history of Juventus.

The Italian coach used to earn around €7 million at Juventus. A very high figure for Milan plus he’s one of the most wanted coaches in Europe. However, for family reasons, Allegri who is father of a young boy and his actress partner Ambra Angiolini would prefer to stay in Italy.

That’s why a possible return at San Siro is still likely despite him commanding a high salary.
