AC Milan to sell €25m flop for low price

At the end of the season AC Milan will sell Samuel Castillejo. The Spanish right winger has not lived up to expectations.

After three years at San Siro, Samuel Castillejo has failed to live up to expectations since his move in 2018. The Spanish winger has found much more first team opportunities after the sale of Suso but he has been unable to contribute like the Rossoneri had hoped.

The management has identified the right wing as one of the weak points of Stefano Pioli’s team. Even Alexis Saelemaekers, after a more than encouraging start, has struggled to find continuity in performances. One of the summer mercato priorities of AC Milan is to sign a right winger that can guarantee more goals.

The Rossoneri have put Samuel Castillejo on the market and the former Villarreal has a price tag of ‘just’ 9-10 million euros. In the summer of 2018, AC Milan spent around €25 million to purchase Castillejo. His numbers after three seasons with the Rossoneri are underwhelming. In 104 appearances, Samu has scored just 10 goals and assisted 12.

At the end of the season Castillejo will return in Spain with many La Liga clubs ready to take him back. Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Villarreal are monitoring his situation but Valencia looks like the most likely destination.

Paolo Maldini and Massara are already planning for life after Samu. Florian Thauvin remains a top target while recently the name of Josip Ilicic has emerged as a low cost solution. The Atalanta star could be available for a figure of around 5 million euros.
