Maldini opens up about Botman signing

The Rossoneri technical director Paolo Maldini confirms AC Milan’s interest in Netherlands star Sven Botman.

AC Milan will sign a central defender during the winter transfer window and the confirmation came last night directly from AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini. The name that is most insistently associated with the Rossoneri is always that of Sven Botman on which the former AC Milan captain did not hesitate to comment.

Botman is a very good player, he is owned by Lille and has a contract until 2024. Of course he is not the only only target, there are other players available. Perhaps our only need now, due to Kjaer’s injury, is precisely that of a defender. Then if he will arrive on loan for six months or we will choose a definitive solution also for the next few years, it will also have to be assessed on the basis of the player’s price tag and the type of player we will identify“.

The Dutchman remains AC Milan’s number one target reports Tuttosport. The 21-year-old has all the characteristics that AC Milan are looking for: he is strong, he is young and would be an important investment for the future. Purchasing Botman in partnership with Tomori would mean securing the future of the defence for the next ten years.

The biggest problem, however, is that Botman costs a lot as Lille continue to ask for €30 million to let him go. The Rossoneri are ready to make a significant investment for the Netherlands international but need to postpone the majority of the transfer fee payment for next season’s budget. The Rossoneri need to keep lowering their losses.

Maldini and Massara will try to convince the French club to lower their claims but in the meantime they are also evaluate other alternatives. The other targets Abdou Diallo (Psg), Loic Bade (Rennes), Malang Sarr (Chelsea), Marcos Senesi (Feyenoord), Attila Szalai (Fenerbahce) and Becir Omeragic (Zurich). Torino’s Bremer remains a popular option but the Granata are not open to negotiate in January.
