AC Milan 2-2 Atalanta, player ratings
The Rossoneri take the lead twice but Atalanta equalize in the stoppage time. Yet again AC Milan fail to exploit the mistakes of their Champions League rivals.
Donnarumma 6: Gigio is forced to be attentive on many occasions. Makes a great save on Zapatta at the beginning of the second half. He makes a mess at the end of the match but fortunately Rodriguez saves on the line. Another great save in the final moments but Rigoni is all alone with the empty goal.
Calabria 5.5: Pushes a lot forward and is the only defender to accompany his teammates in attack with consistency. Nearly surprises Gollini with a deviated cross. Burned by Gomez on the occasion of the 1-1 equalizer.
Abate 5: Enters the game in the 66 minute. In extreme difficulty on Rigoni, loses Zapata at the moment of the 2-2 draw. A bad move by Gattuso.
Musacchio 6: In the first half he is nearly perfect. The Argentine centre back does not miss an intervention, he often advances in midfield and completely neutralizes Barrow along with Romagnoli. Zapata uses more his physic and creates some more problems.
Romagnoli 6: The harmony with Musacchio is there and it is obvious. The two rarely miss anything and cooperate well when they have to cover each other’s back. It is the captain who keeps Rigoni in the game for the 2-2 equalizer of Atalanta.
Rodriguez 6.5: The left axis with Bonaventura and Calhanoglu is starting to take off, with Ricardo able to present himself more often up front. Saves de Roon’s shot on the goal line. A good display for the Swiss left back.
Kessie 5: The Ivory international has on his conscience the lost opportunity to make the result 2-0 but one-on-one with Gollini he somehow manages to misuse a perfect assist by Higuain. Dominates Freuler and Zapata but loses Rigoni, in cooperation with Abate, on the occasion of 2-2.
Biglia 6.5: Another good performance by the Argentine defensive midfielder. During the match Lucas helps Bonaventura and Kessie but also contributes a lot in defense.
Bonaventura 6.5: Tests Gollini with some good long-range shots. Sometimes he gets messed up with too many dribbles but the Italian has energy to sell. Puts AC Milan in advantage after a delicious assist from Suso in the second half.
Bakayoko 5.5: The French is supposed to give physicality and rhythm but he does not. Fails to handle a counter-attack in the final that could have been decisive.
Suso 7: Offers an exquisite assist with his left foot for Higuain and El Pipita turns into 1-0. Castagne and Masiello both try to limit him but without success. Opts to provide more for his teammates rather they try for himself. In the second half serves the winning assist for the 2-1 of Bonaventura.
Higuain 7: The Argentine striker needs only 100 seconds to break the deadlock with a flying a right-footed shot that ends in the back of the net. Letter puts Kessie in perfect conditions to double the advantage but he fails. It’s embarrassingly obvious how much Higuain differs from his less experienced teammates.
Calhanoglu 5.5: Hakan was rarely seen on the pitch today. Another disappointing performance for the left winger after the one against Cagliari. Suso sets up a good opportunity for Calhanoglu to make it 3-1 but it’s clearly that this was not his game.
Gattuso 5.5: Milan dominates in the first half but is unable to materialize its supremacy. The team reacts well after the goal from Papu Gomez but fails to hold the advantage. His substitutions are off the mark especially with Castillejo that should have entered the game much sooner.
