AC Milan make final decision on Luka Jovic

The contract of Luka Jovic with AC Milan expires at the end of the season but the Rossoneri have clear plans for the Serbian striker.

The arrival of Luka Jovic to AC Milan was a true saga. The Rossoneri had rejected his services on a number of occasions. However, having agreed deals for three players but unable to close them during the last 24 hours of the summer transfer window, Milan decided to go ahead and sign Luka Jovic on a free transfer from Fiorentina.

It was a last minute deal and Jovic signed a one-year contract with the Rossoneri. Now, that the season is coming to a close, it’s time for AC Milan to make a final decision. The 26-year-old had a slow start to life but eventually reached his best form. While Jovic has never been able to replicate his goal scoring form at Frankfurt, he has scored 8 goals and provided one assists in 24 appearances. That translates into an average of one goal every 122 minutes.

A respectable tally for a substitute player. Luka Jovic has proven very effective in the impact sub role while he has struggled when asked to lead the Rossoneri’s attack from the first minute in Giroud’s absence. In general, AC Milan are pleased with the performance of Luka Jovic and will offer him a contract renewal.

AC Milan have an option to renew Luka Jovic’s contract for three more seasons but the will not exercise that option unliterally. Instead discussions will take place soon to improve salary conditions. Luka Jovic is currently earning €1.3 million this season. The Serbian striker took a significantly pay cut in order to join the Italian club.

Jovic will very likely be the only centre forward to stay at AC Milan for next season. It seems like Olivier Giroud has reached the end of his Italian adventure. The French star plans to continue his career in USA and will probably join Los Angeles Galaxy. The veteran striker has scored 14 goals and provided 9 assists so far.
