AC Milan to profit from midfielder’s €50m Newcastle transfer

AC Milan will receive a portion of the transfer fee if Lucas Paqueta ends up joining Newcastle United as reported.

Lucas Paqueta is one of AC Milan’s biggest disappointments in recent years. The Brazilian midfielder joined the Rossoneri from Flamengo in 2019 for a fee of €38.4 million. The talented midfielder failed to live up to expectations at San Siro and left the club after two season having scored just one goal in 44 appearances.

Lucas Paqueta was able to revive his career at Lyon becoming one of the best players in Ligue 1. The €20 million fee Lyon paid to acquire his services is looking like a bargain fee now. The 24-year-old has scored 10 goals and assisted 7 attracting the attention of many European clubs.

According to Fichajes.net, Lucas Paqueta is set to join Newcastle United this summer. Lyon are in talks with the Premier League club to repeat the Bruno Guimaraes operation that took place in January. The Magpies want to purchase Paqueta and are willing to spend 50 million for his services.

AC Milan suffered a big economic loss when selling Paqueta for half of what they paid to Flamengo. However, the Rossoneri have a 15% sell-on clause on Paqueta’s future transfer. If the attacking midfielder moves to Newcastle for 50 million, AC Milan will pocket a figure of 7.5 million.

Paris Saint Germain are another club very interested in Lucas besides Newcastle United. PSG sporting director, Leonardo, brought Paqueta to AC Milan and tried to sign the attacking midfielder again before he joined Lyon. A revamped attempt at the end of the season is still likely.
