Barcelona respond to AC Milan’s interest for Riqui Puig

AC Milan are interested in signing Barcelona central midfielder Riqui Puig but the Spanish giants have other plans for their player.

Barcelona talent Riqui Puig is one of the the new names AC Milan are considering to strengthen the midfield. The Rossoneri management is very attentive to young prospects and the Spanish player seems destined for a bright future.

This season Puig has found little space under Ronald Koeman, a coach with whom he does not have a great relationship. Only five appearances between La Liga (two) and Champions League (three) but not a single match played for the entire 90 minutes. At this point the 21-year-old is thinking about changing club in order to play more.

According to Sky Sport, Barcelona are not considering the sale of Riqui Puig. His current contract expires in June 2021 but Barcelona will trigger an extension until 2023 reports Fabrizio Romano. An offer of 25-30 million could convince the Spanish giants to let go of their gem.

AC Milan will probably have to focus on another player to strengthen the midfield. Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara have multiple players on their shopping list. The arrival of a new midfielder is a necessity for coach Stefano Pioli.

The Rossoneri need an addition to become stronger and more complete. Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer have been excellent so far, while Sandro Tonali is an alternative with lots of room for growth. The “weak link” is Rade Krunic who is not suited to play in a two-man midfield.
