Gattuso on Kalinic: “I thought I lost a player”

AC Milan reach the Coppa Italia final overcoming Lazio on penalties. However the match could have been closed much sooner if only Nikola Kalinic was more accurate from close range.

Coach Gennaro Gattuso interviewed by Rai Sport spoke about the clamorous error of Kalinic at the end of extra time: “I thought I had to work on the player’s head. You can miss a chance, who plays football knows that. I thought I had lost a player, fortunately we reached the final. Kalinic clenched his teeth, he had a physical problem but still made himself available. He possesses great technique, pity that he can’t find the goal. But he is a champion, I care for him“.

The Croatian 30 year old striker substituted Patrick Cutrone in the 70th minute. He had a perfect opportunity to close the game in the last seconds of the extra time but, alone with the goalkeeper, he shot above the bar. Fortunately thanks to Gigio Donnarumma’s several penalty saves the Rossoneri qualified for the final to be played against Juventus.
