How AC Milan’s signing of Netherlands winger failed

For a long time AC Milan were in search of a left winger. Leonardo considered many players before purchasing Samu Castillejo in the end.

Quincy Promes was one of the wingers approached by the Rossoneri club in these weeks but in the end Leonardo and Paolo Maldini have turned on Samuel Castillejo. The 26 year old Dutch remained in Russia.

A few minutes ago Sportitalia revealed that Spartak Moscow had approved AC Milan’s request to loan the Netherlands international but the Red and Blacks decided to pull the plug on this deal. So the operation failed. The Italian giants instead concentrated on Castillejo with the management duo valuing the Spaniard as the ideal player for the Rossoneri even though they had agreed personal terms with Promes.

Promes was certainly an interesting profile and, honestly, it is surprising that Spartak Moscow had given the go-ahead to a loan move (with the right to buy) for one of its best players. The total figure of the agreement was supposed to be around 25 million euros. The Dutch had also been approached by Roma but without success. Certainly it would have been a good signing for AC Milan but the management preferred Castillejo and hopefully their belief will be repaid.
