How will AC Milan change under Pioli
Under Stefano Pioli AC Milan are expected to play with a 4-3-3 formation but with an innovation in defence.
Recently AC Milan announced the sacking of Marco Giampaolo. The Italian coach left after just seven matches in charge, the shortest tenure in the history of the Rossoneri. Stefano Pioli is the new coach of AC Milan.
With Pioli, Milan would certainly play with a 4-3-3 game system. In defense, the new Milan coach loves the “three and a half”. In this case it is easy to imagine that the Rossoneri team would play with Calabria on the right and Romagnoli and Musacchio as the central duo.
On the left, however, Pioli prefers a full-back who attacks and resumes his position only when the ball comes into possession of the opponents. At Pioli’s Milan this role and its duties should fall on Theo Hernandez. It is called a “three and a half” defence because the half (Theo Hernandez) must almost always press forward.
In midfield, Pioli loves the regista, a metronome to organize the play. In the Rossoneri squad there is Lucas Biglia, a favorite player during Pioli’s time at Lazio. So it is logical to assume that he could be the starting player. Although, the Biglia of today is not the Biglia of his Lazio days. However, when Pioli was at the helm of Fiorentina he had carefully studied Bennacer, one of the stars of neighboring Empoli.
In attack Pioli plays with one centre forward and two wingers. In short, a bomber but Piatek may have to move a little more than its characteristics. But it is certainly a figure that can please. The 53-year-old coach plays with two wide wingers with inverted feet. A player of Suso’s characteristics will undoubtedly be a favorite of Pioli. Rafael Leao should be the first option on the left but Rebic and Calhanoglu could be the surprise.
