Marco Giampaolo’s strong message for the squad

New Rossoneri coach Marco Giampaolo surprised everyone with his decision to bench both Paquea and Piatek for Milan-Brescia.

Kryzstof Piatek’s exclusion from the starting eleven was a technical choice”. This was the big headline after Milan-Brescia. Giampaolo’s decision, in addition to having surprised journalists and supporters, caused a lot of discussion, and implicitly showed the great courage and character of the new AC Milan coach.

Nobody expected Andre Silva, who should have been sold, to lead the attack. Next to Piatek, on the bench, was also seated Lucas Paqueta with Hakan Calhanoglu preferred in his position.

Last night’s match gave clear indications on what could be Marco Giampaolo’s choices during the season. No fixed starters, no fixed hierarchies but everyone can play and everyone can sit on the bench. A football philosophy that the former Sampdoria coach had already anticipated when he openly declared how the starting lineup was the last of his thoughts.

Statements that, if at the time they seemed ways to avoid a direct response, today are a clear attitude from the coach. Giampaolo returned to the concept also in the interviews released at the end of the match won against Brescia. “From time to time I reserve the right to choose” and then “We cannot speak of exclusion. In 2020 there are no longer 11 starting players but 23. I want to create this awareness in the players, knowing that someone will play more and someone less“.

What Milan should we expect then? Certainly a team that will often change skin. Just like yesterday, Marco Giampaolo will choose the formation match-by-match, basing his decisions on the condition of the players, on their availability but, above all, on the opponent. Except for some exceptions, therefore, this season, the stable starters will be few and the fans shouldn’t be astonished if the protagonists of the previous match have to start from the bench in the next one.
