The pros and cons of Carlo Ancelotti’s return at Milan

The possible return of Carlo Ancelotti for next season excites AC Milan fans but there are pros and cons of this difficult operation.

In recent days rumors have emerged about a possible return of Carlo Ancelotti at AC Milan at the end of the current season. The Italian coach is expected to leave Napoli, where the climate has become really tense between the players and the club.

Paolo Maldini would love to bring Carlo back home, the person with whom he won every possible trophy when they were teammates and also when he became the Rossoneri’s coach. To have a similar figure at Milanello would be very convenient. A coach of great experience and charisma that would represent an important quality leap that would restore enthusiasm to the environment.

Tuttosport highlights the pros and cons of the eventual return of Carlo Ancelotti to AC Milan.

PROS

1- With Carlo’s return at Milan, the fans would have concrete guarantees of Elliott’s desire to bring the club back to high levels. The former Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea coach would hardly return if there were not the right ambitions on the part of the owners.

2- With Ancelotti on the bench it would become easier to attract top level players. He would be a magnet for those players who today are probably not very tempted to join the Rossoneri.

3- This operation would bring the Rossoneri DNA back into the locker room, something that is missing since Gennaro Gattuso’s farewell. The current Napoli coach is a Milan man and would be a guide for everyone.

4- If Ancelotti returns he would have the chance to become the Rossoneri’s coach with the most appearances. He stopped at 420, while Nereo Rocco is at an altitude of 459.

CONS

1- Hardly Carlo would have a squad ready to compete immediately for the very top positions. The budget situation requires the club to avoid exaggerated investments on the market.

2- Ancelotti is used to working with groups that are ready to win or at least fight for the top spots. Dealing with young players is different.

3- The comebacks historically do not have the desired effect at Milan. Famous colleagues like Arrigo Sacchi (11th in the 1996-1997 season) and Fabio Capello (10th in 1997-1998) are the prime example.

4- Ancelotti in the past said he wanted to coach a national team and at the end of his adventure at Napoli he could evaluate this option in order to be a protagonist at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
