Sheva: Two AC Milan players could make the difference against Chelsea

Andriy Shevchenko, a former player of both clubs, talks about the upcoming Champions League match between AC Milan and Chelsea.

Who better than Andriy Shevchenko can talk about the upcoming Champions League clash between Chelsea and AC Milan? The two teams are part of the Group E and will have their first direct match on Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge after a very long time. The legendary striker offered his take on the upcoming game.

Interviewed by Milan TV, Shevchenko first of all focused on the current AC Milan squad and on the type of football they play. Great praise for the team: “Milan play good football, are confident, play at high intensity and manage matches very well. It has so many quality players who can make the difference. Pioli’s team plays modern football that people like, they play a lot in attack but they also know how to manage all situations during matches”.

A leap into the past is inevitable, at the Champions League match between Chelsea and Milan in 1999. Sheva was on the pitch at the time, wearing the Red and Black shirt: “It was a very intense match. The British are always tough. We drew 0-0. This Chelsea-Milan will be different, the two current teams are very different from those two. Milan has raised its level. I expect a beautiful match. There will be a very hot atmosphere. Chelsea need to win, they will pick up the pace. But Milan have quality players”.

Sheva believes that Giroud and Leao could make the difference against Chelsea. It will be a special match for Giroud who played at Chelsea. He is doing very well. And he will have the spotlight on him. He is a very good person. He is a striker who knows where to go in order to score, he has a great flair for goals. He is elegant, he still has a lot to give to Milan. Having someone like him on the team helps a lot”.

Finally, Shevchenko focused on Leao who was linked to a Chelsea this summer: “Leao is becoming an absolute leader. In London he will have the opportunity to showcase his great qualities also in the Champions League which is a different competition. Leao is a great talent who can make a difference even in these matches”.
