AC Milan aim shock move for Atalanta star

AC Milan are looking at Atalanta star Papu Gomez to replace  Hakan Calhanoglu in January reports Nico Schira.

AC Milan have not been able to renew Hakan Calhanoglu’s contract. The current deal of the Turkish midfielder expires in June 2021 and the Rossoneri are trying to find an agreement. However, no progress has been made so far.

The management has scheduled an important meeting with agent Gordon Stipic this week. The parties are distant regarding demand and offer but they hope to get closer and the direct confrontation expected in the coming days could help. The Rossoneri do not want to lose a key player of the squad for free.

Hakan Calhanoglu currently earns 2.5 million per year but has asked for 7 million. Milan on the other hand will not go beyond 3.5 million plus bonuses and are already looking around for alternatives. Journalist Nico Schira reports that Atalanta star Papu Gomez could be Hakan’s replacement.

Papu Gomez had a fight with Gian Piero Gasperini and both suggested that a divorce is just a matter of time. The 32-year-old Argentine hit back at Gasperini promising to tell the “whole truth” when he leaves.

Like in the past, even this season Papu has played a crucial role for Atlanta in Serie A and Champions League. In 15 appearances so far he has scored 5 goals and has assisted 4. It’s true that Milan prioritize the signing of young players but at favorable economic conditions the club has added experienced veterans.
