Two wingers offered to Milan in the last day of the January market

AC Milan ended the January transfer window without the purchase of a winger even though two players were offered to the Rossoneri in the last day.

The January transfer window has just ended. AC Milan signed two big names like Lucas Paqueta and Piatek but the much wanted winger did not arrive. Leonardo and Paolo Maldini were chasing many interesting players but in the end the club decided against a move.

The top two choices of AC Milan were Ferreira-Carrasco and Saint-Maximin. The Belgium winger accepted a move to Milan in the last days of the transfer campaign but the Rossoneri couldn’t find an agreement with his Chinese club. Same situation for Saint-Maximin, the player would gladly join the Rossoneri but Nice coach Patrick Vieira threatened to resign if the 21 year old was sold in January. Negotiations will certainly resume in a few months.

However two other wingers were proposed to Milan in the last day of the transfer window. Sportitalia reveals that Simone Verdi of Napoli and Gregoire Defrel, currently on loan at Sampdoria, were offered to Milan. Verdi has found little space under Ancelotti since his 25 million euros summer transfer. The Italian winger is in fact a former player of Milan and a Primavera product.

Defrel on the other hand has done well at Sampdoria scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists in 20 Serie A appearances but he has failed to secure a regular starter spot. It’s still unclear if Sampdoria will make his stay permanent that’s why Roma offered the 27 year old to Milan instead.

As explained Milan reject the two players for the same reason. The club wants a winger that could immediately lead the attack, a player that could be integrated easily in the starting eleven just like Paqueta and Piatek. An improvement over Hakan Calhanoglu and the duo was considered just as a temporary solution something that coach Gattuso did not prefer.
