The top target remains PSG star midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The 23 year old has an expiring contract with the French giants and on January he can sign a deal with any club he wants. Rabiot on a free transfer would be an excellent piece of business by technical director Leonardo considering that the central midfielder would be worth more than 50 million euros in a different contractual situation.
There are a couple of problems for AC Milan to overcome in order to secure the French youngster signature. The Rossoneri need to finish in the top 4 as Rabiot wants to play in champions League next season. The midfielder also demands a top player contract of around 5 million euros per season. Competition for his services is high too with Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City also interested.
However AC Milan can rely on Leonardo and his good relationship with both the player and his mother-agent. The Rossoneri can offer Rabiot something that the above-mentioned club can’t, a guaranteed spot in the starting eleven, Rabiot’s main demand.

Cesc Fabregas | Chelsea
The new name in Leonardo’s list is that of an old target. Spanish maestro Cesc Fabregas is looking for a new squad for next season. The former Arsenal and Barcelona central midfielder has a contract with Chelsea until 2019 but may leave already in January.

Sandro Tonali is 18 years old but eyes of the entire Italy are on him. The defensive midfielder is making a name for himself in Serie B playing with Brescia and his performances have not gone unnoticed by the Rossoneri.

The young regista is often likened to Andrea Pirlo in terms of play style. The creative midfielder plays the central role in the 4-3-3 formation, and shows maturity beyond his age. Even if AC Milan decided to purchase another player Tonali’s name should remain high in the club’s list of targets for the future.

Leandro Paredes | Zenit Saint Petersburg
The former Roma star is also an old target of the Rossoneri. The Red and Blacks tried to purchase him two years ago when he was loaned at Empoli but a cash strapped AC Milan at that time went for the cheap choice signing Mati Fernandez instead.
The Argentine international transferred to Zenit Saint Petersburg last year for a fee of 27 million euros but would be more than willing to return to Italy for AC Milan. However his purchase would require a significant investment of around 30 million euros.
Considering the performances of the deep-lying playmaker with the velvet touch that may be a price worth paying.

Nicolo Barella | Cagliari
The 21 year old central midfielder of Cagliari is one biggest talents in Italian football. Last season he continued his evident progress making 35 appearances in Serie A, scoring 5 goals and securing an easy salvation for Cagliari.
The Rossoneri scouts have been monitoring Nicolo Barella for the last two years but competition for his services and his 30 million euros price tag have been a problem so far.
If technical director Leonardo is convinced that the 21 year old is worth it a transfer will be green-lighted in January.
