AC Milan reach agreement with defender

Considering the difficulties to sign other names, AC Milan have agreed terms with Schalke defender Matija Nastasic.

AC Milan need to sign a new central defender before the end of the summer transfer window. The management is evaluating various players to reinforce Stefano Pioli’s defense department.

According to reports by Sportmediaset, AC Milan’s number one pick is Wesley Fofana of Saint-Etienne. However, the €30 million price tag is considered excessive. Without the money from the sale of Lucas Paqueta, it’s hard to even consider the signing of the French talent.

Therefore Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara have turned their attention to another defender. The alternative to Fofana seems to be Matija Nastasic, with whom AC Milan have agreed personal terms. Schalke 04 are open to let the 27-year-old defender leave on loan with an option to buy.

Nastasic has more experience than Fofana and lower costs. The Serbian has past experience in Italy having played with Fiorentina for two seasons. He then joined Manchester City for a figure of 15 million euros plus Stefan Savic and latter moved to Germany at Schalke.

Nevertheless, AC Milan will wait until the very last days of the mercato before completing the signing of Nastasic. The Rossoneri want to understand if there will be a chance to sign Fofana or Maksimovic from Fiorentina. At the same time the management is negotiating the signing of Jens-Petter Hauge from Bodo Glimt.
