AC Milan considering 3 free agents for the defence

AC Milan are looking at free agent defenders to improve their back line with three players being considered by the management.

Until the very last hours of the summer transfer window AC Milan tried to sign a new centre back, but without success. Offers for Ozan Kabak, German Pezzella and Mohamed Simakan were rejected by their respective clubs leaving the Rossoneri empty-handed.

Stefano Pioli has back under his orders captain Alessio Romagnoli, who immediately started from the first minute in the derby against Inter, but he lost Matteo Gabbia to Coronaviurs infection. Same situation for Leo Duarte, who unlike Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not recovered yet. Out even Mateo Musacchio, who is recovering from an ankle injury and perhaps will return permanently to the group by the end of October.

According to reports from Germany, AC Milan are evaluating a couple of released central defenders to enrich the back line. Among the players without a team is Kyriakos Papadopoulos, the 28-year-old Greek defender who last played with Hamburg.

He is not an ideal profile, considering that he hardly played in the last season making just 4 appearances, 2 of which with the B team. The German press reports that there have been contacts with Papadopoulos, who seemed very promising at the beginning of his career when he joined Bayer Leverkusen. However, he then got lost along the way. It would be strange if Milan gave him a chance.

Another free agent being linked with a move to the Rossoneri is Jozo Simunovic. The 26-year-old Croatian defender did not renew his contract with Celtic Glasgow. Last season Simunovic made 16 appearances and scored one goal with the Scottish giants, AC Milan’s next opponent in Europa League. Simunovic seems a more credible hypothesis than Papadopoulos.

The most notable name on the list is Ezequiel Garay. The Argentine veteran is now a free agent after leaving Valencia. The Spanish club spent 24 million euros four years ago to buy Garay from Zenit. In the past Garay has also played for Real Madrid and Benfica.
