Gds: AC Milan and Inter have off-field derby for Italian striker

AC Milan will play Inter on the Coppa Italian but another derby will be played off the pitch with both clubs fighting for Gianluca Scamacca.

Gianluca Scamacca is having a standout season with Sassuolo. The 23-year-old Italian centre forward has scored 10 goals in 25 Serie A appearances helping his club secure surprising victories against top six clubs. The great performances of Scamacca have attracted the attention of important clubs with AC Milan and Inter in the front row.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the talented striker wants to stay in Italy and AC Milan or Inter will be his next destination. Neither club has officially open talks with Sassuolo because they are concentrated on the Scudetto fight. A mercato derby with Inter in advantage, however, the Rossoneri are in the race according to Gazzetta.

AC Milan sporting director Frederic Massara knows very well Scamacca from their Roma days. The 23-year-old started his career at the Giallorossi but eventually moved to Netherlands to play for PSV and PEC Zwolle before returning to Italy.

The AC Milan management has prepared an important investment for the signing of a new striker this summer. Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have struggled physically throughout the season while youngsters like Pellegri or Lazetic have given little contribution.

The new striker must be young but already a proven goal scorer that plays regularly at his club. Gianluca Scamacca is considered the complete package, a powerful forward with ambition and ample room for improvement. Another interesting name on AC Milan’s radar is that Hugo Ekitike. The 30 million rated French striker has scored 10 goals so far.
