OFFICIAL: AC Milan announce new signing

AC Milan have decided to exercise their option and sign centre back Simon Kjaer on a permanent transfer from Sevilla.

AC Milan have announced the signing of Simon Kjaer on a permanent transfer. The Danish defender joined the Rossoneri on loan as part of the deal that saw Caldara return to Atalanta.

The Rossoneri have spent 3.5 million euros in order to purchase Kjaer from Sevilla and the agreement was reached on deadline day because after 15 July the option on his loan would expire.

“AC Milan is delighted to announce that the club has exercised its option to purchase Simon Kjær on a permanent basis from Sevilla FC. The Danish player has signed a contract expiring on 30 June 2022”.

The Rossoneri management were initially reluctant on Kjaer because CEO Ivan Gazidis believed that his salary of 2.5 million was too high for a 31-year-old defender. Nevertheless, his performances convinced everyone that it was the right decision.

Since his arrival in January, the Denmark captain has been a reliable partner for Alessio Romagnoli at the heart of the defence. A considerable improvement over Mateo Musacchio, Kjaer has formed a solid duo with Romagnoli.

The 31-year-old centre back has made 9 Serie A appearances with AC Milan so far. In the past Simon has also played for clubs like Fenerbahce, Lille, Wolfsburg, Roma and Palermo besides Sevilla and Atalanta.
