From Spain: Barcelona push to sign second AC Milan player

Barcelona are looking at AC Milan again for reinforcements after having completed the signing of Franck Kessie.

Barcelona have already completed the signing of Franck Kessie on a free transfer from AC Milan. The Ivorian central midfielder refused to extend his contract with the Rossoneri and will be playing at Camp Nou next season. However, the Spaniards are looking at another AC Milan player in similar situation.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are interested in Rossoneri captain Alessio Romagnoli. The 27-year-old Italian centre back is in a similar situation with Kessie. Romagnoli will not be renewing his contract with Milan and will leave once the season is over as a free agent.

Romagnoli’s availability on a free transfer is very tempting for a club like Barcelona who have struggled financially in recent seasons. Barcelona have already had exploratory talks with Romagnoli according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona are not the only Spanish club interested in Romagnoli with Sevilla keeping tabs on his situation too. The Italian defender looked set to join Lazio this summer but the Biancocelesti’s contract offer of around 2.5 million per season has been considered too low by the Italian.

Alessio Romagnoli lost his starting spot after the arrival of Fikayo Tomori. The former Roma defender was also unable to exploit the injury of Simon Kjaer. After a brief partnership with Tomori, coach Stefano Pioli relied more on Pierre Kalulu for the rest of the season.
