Gazzetta: AC Milan working underground for Atalanta star, the details

Atalanta captain Papu Gomez is on the market and can leave in January with AC Milan working underground to secure his signature.

The future of Papu Gomez has become crystal clear. The Atalanta captain will leave in January after a fallout with coach Gian Piero Gasperini with club president Percassi admitting they have decided to support the coach’s decision.

Atalanta have put the Argentine star on the market and he would like to continue his career in Serie A. A player of his qualities, that for many years has been one of the best in Serie A, still has many admirers in Italy including AC Milan.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that AC Milan are working underground to sign Papu Gomez but the Rossoneri need to take into account the competition of three other Serie A clubs: Inter, Napoli and Roma. Neither club has problem agreeing personal terms with Papu but a deal with Atalanta would be more difficult to convince.

Atalanta has informed all suitors that Papu Gomez costs 15-18 million and there will be no discounts. Paolo Maldini is willing to bring the 32-year-old attacking midfielder immediately at San Siro but Elliot doesn’t want to spend a high fee for a player over thirty.

The Argentine player has been quite decisive this season with 5 goals and 4 assists in 16 appearance. At Milan he would occupy the same role as Hakan Calhanoglu even though positive news arrives from his renewal talks.
