Gds: Klopp wants AC Milan star at Liverpool

Liverpool continue to insist for AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer. The Algerian is not renewing his contract.

Before the end of last season AC Milan had reached an agreement to extend the contract of Ismael Bennacer until 2027. At the same time, the Rossoneri would eliminate his €50 release clause applied only to foreign clubs. Everything was halted from the player’s side when Bahrain fund Investcorp entered in negotiations to buy AC Milan club from Elliott.

The situation has changed a lot since them. Ismael Bennacer is no longer accepting AC Milan’s offer of nearly €3.5 million per season and is asking the same deal of Theo Hernandez (€4.5 million per season). However, Gazzetta dello Sport reports there is much more behind the midfielder’s change of heart.

Bennacer has been approached by Liverpool reports journalist Carlo Laudisa. Jurgen Klopp wants to add a new central midfielder to his ranks before the end of the summer transfer window. Unable to get Jude Bellingham, Liverpool have shifted their focus to Bennacer according to Gazzetta.

Despite his ups and downs the Algeria international has played a key role for AC Milan since his €17 million transfer from Empoli in 2019. His importance was highlighted especially in the second part of last season when Bennacer proved determinant with several high level performances.

Bennacer has already experience in England. Before his switch to Italy he was part of Arsenal for two years. Ismael failed to make an official appearances with the first squad but he featured regularly for the youth ranks. If Liverpool really want to purchase Ismael Bennacer they will have to activate his €50 million release clause because AC Milan have no intention to negotiate his sale. Such a figure is well within Liverpool’s reach.
