Maldini’s biggest transfer dilemma

With a limited transfer budged available, Paolo Maldini will have to decide whether to sign a new centre back or a right winger.

After the calm in early August, AC Milan started to really move strongly on the market at the last days of the month. One by one, Paolo Maldini has successfully followed his priorities.

The Rossoneri technical director first completed the renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish striker will stay at Milan for at least one more year and continue to be the focal point of the team. Next it was the time of Brahim Diaz and Sandro Tonali. Now Paolo has agreed terms with Bakayoko and is trying to convince Chelsea to close a quick deal.

However, Maldini has to make a difficult choice later. With a limited transfer budget the technical director must decide between signing a new central defender or a right winger. A very difficult task that will have a great impact of Stefano Pioli’s squad.

Kajer and Romagnoli are a reliable duo but Milan needs another top centre back to complete the back line. Nikola Milenkovic is Pioli’s top choice, Elliot is more in favor of Wesley Fofana but the more realist target is German Pezzella (valued at 15 million).

Regarding the right winger position, the only name that AC Milan are considering is that of Federico Chiesa. At this point Fiorentina are aware that no club will pay the requested 70 million and even 50 million is not realistic. Milan intend to wait until the very last days of the summer transfer window hopping that Fiorentina will accept a swap deal with Lucas Paqueta and cash. Whether to sign a new defender or Chiesa, Maldini will make a final decision at the very end reports Mauro Suma.
