‘Far west’ in Milan-Lazio: the reasons of the final brawl

Kessie’s spot kick was enough to secure three vital points for Milan in the Champions League race but after the match a massive brawl exploded between the players.

A match full of tension, full of tactical fouls, doubts and disputes. It was no coincidence that Milan-Lazio saw nervousness and anger dominate after the final whistle of referee Rocchi.

It was certainly astonishing to see the crazy “far west” fight unleashed in the last seconds of the match. Some AC Milan players and their Lazio rivals literally clashed exchanging blows and inappropriate words. But what really happened?lan

La Gazzetta dello Sport reconstructed today the reasons why the brawl at San Siro exploded. Everything started from a contrast between Suso and Lazio centre-back Luiz Felipe. The Brazilian defender pushed Suso violently after the game had ended.

The Spanish number 8 was immediately defended by some teammates. In particular, Franck Kessie, as usual among the most agitated, would have thrown himself on Felipe with the intention of closing the contest but instead unleashed even more confusion.

Some exceptional peacemakers had to intervene to calm the nerves of the players. In particular coach Gennaro Gattuso the most active in his attempts to divide the players, as well as Francesco Acerbi who was later the involuntary protagonist of the jersey teasing by Bakayoko and Kessie.
