Milan, sanctions coming from UEFA: the situation

AC Milan will continue to play in Europa League however the Rossoneri will suffer consequences for breaching the Financial Fair Play rules.

The derby is nearly here but for AC Milan, another match of great intensity is coming. That is the one with UEFA, to remedy the disasters of the previous management led by Li Yonghong.

As reported by today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the CAS of Lausanne has finally unveiled the full motivations of their decision to readmit Milan in Europa League, canceling the previous exclusion verdict of UEFA, considering it disproportionate. The reason is simple: initially was judged the Chinese Milan, while the rectification came in relation to the new American era.

Still that doesn’t mean the Rossoneri have come out clean. Despite participation in Europa League consequences will follow for Milan. The judges will decide soon but in the meantime the difference between the previous and the current ownership is already obvious. The first three months, in fact, clearly showed the financial solidity of Elliott Management Corporation and the professionalism of leading figures in management including the arrival of Ivan Gazidis.

The most likely scenario at the moment would be for Milan to suffer a pecuniary sanction and not only. In fact, limitations on the squad list are also probable, the exclusion of new purchases from playing in Europa League or transfer market ban is another possibility, as happened in the past to other clubs.

It will depend on the assessment of the numbers, there will certainly be a punishment and everything will depend on the reaction of the Red and Black club. In case of dispute, the parties will return to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Otherwise, if accepted, the telenovela would end there. Regarding the Settlement Agreement, UEFA will ask for a very solid, credible and sustainable business plan with a four-year deficit plan
