Pioli considers new hyper-attacking formation

Pioli studies new tactical solutions for AC Milan. The Rossoneri coach considers the possibility of fielding a super offensive trio.

Stefano Pioli is very satisfied with the players at his disposal, with quality and tactical flexibility not lacking at all. The Italian coach has many options to choose, especially when he has the full squad at his disposal.

For example, Milan have many solutions in attack that allow the team to hurt their opponents in a number of ways. The Rossoneri have the third best attack in Serie A and there is the potential to do even better.

After the match against Cotone, Pioli was asked if, with Hakan Calhanoglu central trequartista, one between Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao can play on the right: “I think neither of them likes to play on the right, they prefer to stay on the left. However, Ante has played there for the national team and Rafael has already done so too. It may be a good solution, we’ll see. If there is availability we can play with many forwards“.

The Rossoneri coach did not rule out the possibility of playing with the Leao-Calhanoglu-Rebic trio behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, at the moment it seems like a solution to be used only when the squad is under and in urgent necessity of goals. For Pioli it is important to have a certain balance on the pitch and deploying too many forwards can be counterproductive if not done right.

It must be said that Rafael Leao has been often used on the right but has not performed like on the left. It is no coincidence that the Rossoneri coach said admitted how he and Rebic do not like to play on that wing. With Saelemaekers and Catillejo struggling on the right, it should not be excluded that the Leao-Hakan-Rebic trident can be used at specific times in the future.
