Pioli to change midfield and attack for Milan vs Inter

Coach Stefano Pioli is planning important changes for the upcoming Coppa Italia derby between AC Milan and Inter.

AC Milan must immediately forget the disappointment of yesterday’s home draw against Udinese. The Rossoneri failed again to win but this time the referee and VAR took center stage by validating a goal scored by hand. AC Milan must turn the page and in the upcoming match they face Inter.

On Tuesday, at 21:00 CET, the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final will be played at San Siro. AC Milan and Inter are fighting not only for the Scudetto but also for the Cup. Coach Stefano Pioli plans formation changes for the next derby. Some are forced choices while others are an attempt to change something after the recent disappointing performances of the squad in the league.

According to Tuttosport, coach Stefano Pioli does not have a massive turnover in mind. Nevertheless, important and heartfelt changes will be made in order to give the squad an impulse. Those who certainly will not be part of the Cup derby are Sandro Tonali, suspended for one round, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has not yet recovered despite personalized training at Milanello. The Swedish striker is doing everything to be available against Napoli on the weekend.

Most likely the AC Milan defense will remain intact and confirmed. Mike Maignan between the posts, Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez on the side lanes with Tomori and Romagnoli forming the central duo. There is a chance that Alessandro Florenzi might start in Calabria’s place.

Inevitable changes in midfield. Ismael Bennacer will start from the first minute alongside Franck Kessie due to the announced absence of Sandro Tonali. Rafael Leao’s injury against Udinese was not serious and the Portuguese winger will start against Inter. Brahim Diaz will be the attacking midfielder with Alexis Saelemaekers returning to play on the right wing.

The name of the centre forward has not been decided yet. Olivier Giroud has not convinced in the last outings, too isolated up front. Ante Rebic can take over his spot. Pioli seems oriented to surprise Inter with the quick movements of Rebic despite Giroud scoring a brace in the last derby.
