Rangnick set for imminent arrival but with Pioli staying

Ralf Rangnick could be set for his imminent arrival at AC Milan but with Stefano Pioli keeping his job as coach of the Rossoneri.

The chaos that has plagued AC Milan management and the sacking of Zvoinimir Boban is having a toll on the squad. In a match played behind closed doors, due to safety concerns, Milan were clearly the inferior team and lost 1-2 to Genoa.

Still, other issues besides the pitch continue to grab headlines. The image of Ivan Gazidis standing alone at the San Siro was emblematic. The absence of Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara is perhaps a signal that the two will soon follow Boban.

But if Maldini decides to leave Milan before the end of the season he inadvertently would be accelerating the arrival of Ralf Rangnick. In that case, Rangnick would terminate his contract with Red Bull Leipzig and take the role of sporting director at Milan reports MilanNews.it.

Thus the German would have a lot of time to prepare for next season and plan the summer shopping campaign in advance. In any scenario, Stefano Pioli will remain the head coach until the end of the season when Rangnick will take over also the coaching role.

Interviewed by Sport 1, Rangnick commented the rumors about an agreement with Milan since December as absolutely not true” but he refused to say whether he would become the new coach of AC Milan.
