Referee admits: Muntari goal, the biggest mistake of my career

It was the match that decided the winner of Serie A 2011/12. Muntari scored with a header however the goal was not given by referee Paolo Tagliavento despite the ball crossing the line while being saved by Gianluigi Buffon.

The decision is now taken: Paolo Tagliavento, a well-known Italian referee, has decided to quit after a long career with hundreds of games refereed in Serie A. Interviewed today by Il Messaggero, the former referee reviews some of the most important games of his career including one that the Rossoneri fans remember well. My biggest career mistake? Obviously Muntari’s goal is my biggest mistake, today that could have been easily avoided in just a second with the help of VAR (or Goal-line technology ). The future? I would like to offer my experience as a teacher for the young referees“.
