Referee admits: Muntari goal, the biggest mistake of my career
It was the match that decided the winner of Serie A 2011/12. Muntari scored with a header however the goal was not given by referee Paolo Tagliavento despite the ball crossing the line while being saved by Gianluigi Buffon.
The decision is now taken: Paolo Tagliavento, a well-known Italian referee, has decided to quit after a long career with hundreds of games refereed in Serie A. “My biggest career mistake? Obviously Muntari’s goal is my biggest mistake, today that could have been easily avoided in just a second with the help of VAR (or Goal-line technology ). The future? I would like to offer my experience as a teacher for the young referees“.
