Sky: AC Milan have made a final decision on Pioli’s sacking

AC Milan have made a final decision on the future of coach Stefano Pioli following a period of reflection from Cardinale, Furlani and Ibrahimovic.

AC Milan have hit rock bottom. There is not point trying to defend the indefensible. The Rossoneri’s recent match against Salernitana was a total flop. AC Milan managed to save one point only in the very last minutes of the match against a team that is at the bottom of the Serie A table. The squad of Stefano Pioli has not won an away league match in 3 months.

The stats are simply awful and they become worse when the number of over 30 injury (21 of which of muscular nature) is taken into account. The club is not happy with the performances of the squad and Stefano Pioli is again under-fine. Cardinale, Furlani and Ibrahimovic have taken 72 hours to make a final decision but when the training resumes on 26 December it should be again Stefano Pioli in charge.

Sky Sport reports that AC Milan are not sacking Stefano Pioli, at least for now. However, changes will be made regarding Stefano Pioli’s coaching staff. Matteo Osti who is the fitness coach, and one of Pioli’s  most trusted collaborators, is set to be sacked reports Sky Sport. So far, Pioli has defended his staff claiming that they are not to be blamed for the high number of injuries and that the issue is still being “analyzed”.

There is a real risk of an internal crash between Pioli and the management since the Italian coach has refused in other instances to make changes to his staff. Another important aspect that the management is refusing to take into account is that the players no longer respond or follow their coach. It is obvious that Milan are no longer a reflection of Stefano Pioli.

The decision to continue ahead with Pioli and given him another coach is also a result of the lack of options available. Donadoni, Graham Potter and Shevchenko have been offered to AC Milan but they are not considered valid alternatives. Antonio Conte, the only big name available on the market, demands a high salary that Milan currently can’t afford.
