AC Milan to sell top player in January

In order for Leonardo to sign some of his top targets the January transfer window AC Milan may be forced to sell one of their best players.

Hakan Calhanoglu has become an issue at Casa Milan. Protagonist of a negative start of the season, the Turkish left winger could now be placed on the market according to Il Corriere dello Sport. And he’s not the only one. Frank Kessie, despite being one of Gennaro Gattuso’s most important players, has a long line of suitors.

At least one of the two will leave in January assures the newspaper. Lucas Paqueta aside, the Rossoneri aim to make several signings but the club will be active even in exit. Leonardo and Paolo Maldini will also work to sell a couple of redundancies, out of Gattuso’s project. However a big could leave too to make room for an important purchase, very likely in midfield.

Awaiting to understand what sanctions will UEFA impose and considering the already defined purchase of Paqueta, the club will now have to move on the market with the utmost caution. Which means the Rossoneri must focus on loans and low-cost operations for January. It is true that the impact of the Brazilian on the current budget will be only 5 million euros but the depreciation will weigh on the following years.

In the meantime, selling a top player would allow Leonardo to work with more ease in several directions. The management may be forced to make a difficult choice soon but for now the list of departures has three certain names. Andrea Bertolacci, Jose Mauri and Riccardo Montolivo, who have rarely seen the pitch this season will be offloaded at the first opportunity.

CorSport reports that Calhanoglu and Kessie are very in-demand and Milan may decided to cash in. Hakan is followed by RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, however, the Rossoneri pretend a substantial offer given the 24 million invested in the summer 2017. Less likely the departure of the Ivorian midfielder.

Kessie e Calhanoglu

Leonardo has received a 40 million offer from the Chinese club Beijing Guoan and also Paris Saint Germain recently inquired about the 21 year old central midfielder. If he had to make a choice, coach Gennaro Gattuso would certainly choose to sacrifice the former Bayer Leverkusen. Often conditioned by physical and personal problems, the 24 year old has seems like a shadow of the player who lead the Devil in the second half of last season.
