Romagnoli injured, out of Italy squad: the details

AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli has suffered a muscle injury while on international duty with Italy.

Bad news and AC Milan go hand in hand these days. The Rossoneri are dealing with an injury crisis and the situation is only getting worse. Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli has left the Italy training camp after sustaining a muscle contracture reports Sky Sport.

The national team medical staff decided that the defender must return to Milanello. Romagnoli will be monitored by the Rossoneri doctors, he will undergo medical tests tomorrow to understand the extent of his injury. Lazio defender and former Milan player Francesco Acerbi will take Romagnoli’s spot in the national team.

The 23 year old captain thus deepens the injury crisis that has plagued the Red and Black. The back line is the most affected department with Mateo Musacchio and Mattia Caldara out for some time. Romagnoli’s injury leaves Milan with only two centre backs fit: Cristian Zapata and young Stefan Simic.

A potentially catastrophic news for coach Gennaro Gattuso. Not just for purely numerical question (as mentioned, today there are only two defenders available), but also for tactic reasons and team morale.

Romagnoli is a pillar of this team, he is the captain and soul of Milan. Without him the Rossoneri lose a fundamental element from every point of view. We hope it is nothing serious and Alessio can easily recover and be ready for Lazio. Gonzalo Higuaìn is suspended for this match so the absence of another star would be too much to bear.
