Benfica sign AC Milan target for bargain fee

Benfica have stunned Europe signing Brazilian winger Everton Soares, and former AC Milan target, at a bargain fee.

Benfica announced yesterday the signing of three important signings: Jan Vertonghen, Luca Waldschmidt and Everton Soares. There is great curiosity for the Brazilian star who will have his first experience in Europe.

The 24-year-old winger has left Gremio de Porto Alegre and signed a contract until June 2025 with Benfica. The destination chosen can be ideal for his growth, given that the Portuguese league has often helped the development of young talents.

Former AC Milan legend, and current Benfica sporting director, Rui Costa has defeated many Europe clubs in the pursuit of the Brazilian international including the Rossoneri. Milan were very close to Everton’s signing when Leonardo was at the club and the parties had reached personal terms at one point.

Everton Soares, nicknamed Cebolinha, will finally have a chance to prove himself in Europe. Benfica are a historic team and will allow him to play in European cups as well. Unlike last year when Gremio wanted more than 40 million to let Soares join AC Milan, Benfica have secured his services for a bargain fee.

The transfer of Everton to the Lisbon club cost Benfica 20 million euros. The agreement also stipulates that Gremio will collect 20% of the proceeds from any future sale of the Brazilian player. It will be interesting to see if Cebolinha succeeds in establishing himself in Portugal and in Europe in general. Talent is not missing.
