AC Milan choose €50m striker as Ibra’s successor

AC Milan are already planning for life after Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Rossoneri want to sign Mauro Icardi claims Repubblica.

Besides Hakan Calhanoglu and Gianluigi Donnarumma, AC Milan want to renew the contract of Zlatan Ibrahimovic too. Despite his age, the Swedish striker remains as lethal as ever in front of the goal has has found the back of the net 16 times in just 21 appearances so far.

Ibrahimovic is the pivot of the Milan project, the veteran who leads a group of young and talented footballers. Injuries this season, combined with his high salary, have led the management to reflect on his future although he should stay at San Siro for one more year.

Nevertheless the Rossoneri are already in search of his successor. According to La Repubblica, the Red and Blacks are thinking of a sensational solution to replace the Swede should he leave. AC Milan want to bring back in Italy Mauro Icardi, currently playing with Paris Saint Germain in Ligue 1.

The Argentine striker is playing well in France, however rumors about the possible arrival of Lionel Messi to PSG and the likely permanent signing of Moise Kean, combined with nostalgia for Italy, is pushing the former Inter captain to change air and feel like a protagonist again. His contract is due to expire in 2024 and his cost is close to €50 million.

In his nearly two years at PSG, Icardi has scored 26 goals in 51 games, also providing 10 assists. AC Milan are not the only Italian club interested in the 28-year-old with Roma and Juventus also keeping tabs on his situation.
