Newcastle preparing €60m bid for AC Milan star

Newcastle United will improve their squad this summer following Champions League qualification and have targeted the AC Milan star.

One of the players that has given a great contribution in AC Milan reaching the Champions League semi-final is without a doubt Mike Maignan. The French goalkeeper was crucial with his saves against Napoli but he caught the eye especially against Tottenham Hotspur blocking Harry Kane & co from finding the back of the net on both matches.

The English press spared no praise for him and several Premier League clubs have increased their interest in his services. Tottenham have already tried to explore a possible transfers but Newcastle United are pushing more now. Newcastle look set to play Champions League football next season and the Saudi owners are expected to invest roughly €200 million on the market this summer.

“News arrives from England with Newcastle ready to spend 170 million euros in the upcoming transfer window. The Magpies are interested in Mike Maignan are would like to invest €60 million for the AC Milan goalkeeper. They will knock on AC Milan’s door soon but it will not be opened. They will read ‘do not disturb’, or ‘we are out’“, reports Carlo Pellegatti.

The Rossoneri consider Mike Maignan one of the few untouchable players in the squad. The 27-year-old is a key player for the squad on and off the pitch. Besides his undisputed goalkeeping skills, Paolo Maldini greatly appreciates his leadership skills. Milan have no intention to sell Maignan and will renew his contract very soon.

Starting from July, the contract of Mike Maignan will be renewed for five years and the French goalkeeper will earn €5 million per season. Maignan is a goalkeeper of absolute modernity. He is a charismatic player, who talks to managers, who gives suggestions. He’s an extraordinary character“, ends his report Pellegatti.
