Arsenal make €55m opening bid for Tonali

AC Milan star Sandro Tonali is on the radar of Arsenal. Mikel Arteta has set his sights on the Italian midfielder.

AC Milan star Sandro Tonali has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A after a difficult first year at San Siro. The 22-year-old played a key part in the Rossoneri’s Scudetto triumph last season attracting the attention of many clubs with his excellent performances. Arsenal are the latest to express their interested in Tonali.

According to Daily Mail, Arsenal have held talks with AC Milan to negotiate the purchase of Sandro Tonali. The Premier League club have been very active o the market this summer signing numerous players like Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.

Nevertheless, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta wants to add another midfielder to his ranks before the transfer window is over and Sando is considered a perfect fit for Premier League football. Arsenal have reportedly made an opening bid of €55 million for Tonali.

An important offer but apparently not a tempting one for AC Milan. The Rossoneri have no intention to sell one of their most prized assets this summer. Paolo Maldini and Stefano Pioli view Tonali as an important figure for the present and for the future. In fact, the club is expected to offer Sando a new five-year contract very soon.

Maldini practically went to war against Elliott last summer because the American owners were refusing to sign Tonali permanently after his disappointing debut season. Purchasing Tonali for roughly 20 million is now considered a masterstroke from Maldini who blindly believed in Sandro when few would have.
