Two formation moves to change AC Milan

The defeat against Inter has made Gennaro Gattuso reflect on his choices and the coach is considering some changes for AC Milan.

According to SportMediaset, after the derby lost, coach Gennaro Gattuso is thinking about possible corrections in his team. The 3-2 defeat against Inter was the first loss of the Rossoneri in 2019 but that doesn’t mean AC Milan can’t improve.

The defence conceded three goals against the city rivals with the opener already in the third minute. Fresh forces are needed in the department with Conti, Zapata and also Caldara ready to challenge for a starting jersey. Conti has made several good appearances as a substitute while Mattia Caldara has fully recovered from a serious injury that kept him out for several months.

The main problem, however, remains how to serve Piatek in the best way. The Pole was too isolated in the derby. Gattuso would not like to change his 4-3-3 formation but it is clear that much more was expected from both Calhanoglu and Suso. The Spaniard was not called-up by the national team and will remain at Milanello to work but his compatriot Castillejo is pressing for more opportunities on the right wing.

The Turkish, after some signs of life, has returned to his usual ups and downs. The most important idea of the Rossoneri coach is therefore to swap the positions of Paqueta and Calhanoglu in order to free the imagination of the Brazilian youngster by bringing him closer to Piatek. Paqueta will play as left winger while Hakan will be pulled back in midfield.

This move is the only option that allows AC Milan to continue with the 4-3-3 lineup. However the voices demanding to see Cutrone on the pitch have grow recently. The temptation to switch to a 4-3-1-2 formation is high with Paqueta as attacking midfielder and Lucas Biglia, together with Bakayoko, in midfield alongside Calhanoglu.
