Two options to replace Tonali for Milan-Lazio

Pioli hopes to recover Tonali for Milan-Lazio but he is already thinking about how to eventually replace him.

The 2-1 victory against Sassuolo also brings with it some negative news for AC Milan. In fact, Franck Kessie has been booked and will miss the match against Lazio due to suspension. However, bad news doesn’t stop there.

Rossoneri defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali is also in doubt for Wednesday’s match at the San Siro. The former Brescia suffered a muscle injury against Sassuolo and it is not yet clear if he will be able to recover in time. Coach Stefano Pioli is forced to think of other alternatives.

Surely in Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 formation there will be a place in midfield for Rade Krunic, who took over from Tonali in the second half of Sassuolo-Milan. Pioli has to choose who will join the Bosnian if the AC Milan number 8 would be unavailable.

The most likely choice is Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkey international is an attacking midfielder but in the past he has played as central midfielder. Since joining AC Milan, Hakan Calhanoglu has practically covered every role in midfield and attack.

A return in the past is the most likely choice but according to Sky Sport there is a second alternative. Sky reports that Davide Calabria could be experimented as central midfielder despite being a full-back. In that scenario Diogo Dalot would play on the right side of the defence.
