Roma vs Milan, probable lineups

Coach Stefano Pioli has only one formation doubt for Roma vs Milan. The Rossoneri need to react after a difficult period.

On Sunday evening at the Olimpico stadium Roma host AC Milan. Roma vs Milan is a very important direct clash between two clubs that hope to play Champions League football next season.

At the moment the classification sees the Rossoneri in second place with 49 points but coming from two consecutive defeats in Serie A and two draws against Red Star in the Europa League. Instead the Giallorossi have won the double European match against Braga but they were stopped by Inzaghi’s Benevento in the league. Nevertheless, Roma are fourth with 44 points and want to shorten the distance from Milan.

Stefano Pioli does not seem willing to propose a new formation for Roma vs Milan. The same starting eleven that was defeated in the derby against Inter on Sunday should be on the pitch again besides one big exception.

The formation will be the usual 4-2-3-1 with Gigio Donnarumma between the posts. In defense Pioli has had a change of heart and Romagnoli will stay on the bench with Tomori taking his spot. The English defender will be starting alongside Simon Kjaer. Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez complete the back four.

The absence of Ismael Bennacer is confirmed in midfield, so Sandro Tonali will join Franck Kessie. Alexis Saelemaekers, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ante Rebic should be the attactking trio behind the striker. Pioli’s only doubt is linked to the Croatian, in a run-off with Rafael Leao but still more likely to start from the first minute. The center forward, of course, will be Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

ROMA (3-4-2-1): Pau Lopez; Mancini, Cristante, Fazio; Karsdorp, Villar, Veretout, Spinazzola; Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Borja Mayoral.

AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): G. Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Rebic (Leao); Ibrahimovic.
