A 6 millions signing. Pros and cons of buying Borini
AC Milan have secured the signing of Fabio Borini from Sunderland. He will undergo medicals tomorrow and sign a new contract with the rossoneri.
MILAN TRANSFER NEWS – Sunderland’s Fabio Borini is going to be the fifth signing of the rossoneri in this summer transfer window. The 26 years old Italian is expected to arrive today in Milan and tomorrow will undergo medical test at Milanello. His purchase, the formula of which is in the process of being defined between Milan and Sunderland (the total economic cost of the operation will be 6 million euros), is aimed to populate the offensive unit after the departures of players like Gerard Deulofeu, Keisuke Honda and Lucas Ocampos. PROS – The former Chelsea, Liverpool, Roma and Parma will allow Vincenzo Montella to have a jolly in the offensive department, even though, he would hardly be part of the attacking trio. However, Montella really likes Fabio Borini because of his versatility, whether he plays on the right or on the left, for him, it makes no difference. CONS – Although Borini is a quick, agile, and hardworking striker, he is not a goalscorer. In the last 5 seasons he has managed to find the back of the net only 15 times. Not much for a player who is part of the offensive unit of his team. But this statistic doesn’t seem to worry either Montella or Mirabelli, with the manager endorsing his signing, defined a few days ago at Casa Milan during a meeting with the Borini’s agent. It will not be a name that warms the fans hearts, but last season must teach us that numeric emergencies, even before qualitative, should be prevented, because curing them while the season ongoing may not be that easy.
In his last season in England, Fabio Borini played 24 matches scoring two goals. Sunderland, under the guidance of manager David Moyes, failed to avoid relegation. He joined Sunderland in 2015 from Liverpool for a reported fee of 10, 7 million euros. Borini started his career at Chelsea and has also been part of Swansea City and Parma.
