AC Milan end the mercato with 11 signings

AC Milan were a busy club this summer making eleven signings. Maldini and Massara strengthened the squad in every department.

The summer transfer window has just closed and AC Milan, without a doubt, were the most active Italian club among the top six. Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara concluded a number of signings brining eleven player at San Siro. A very positive shopping campaign but one that lacked that big name fans had hoped for the attack.

AC Milan moved in advance to find a worthy replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma and snatched Mike Maignan from Lille for a relative low fee of 15 million. In his first two appearances with the Rossoneri it looks like Dida had returned to protect the goal and Donnarumma’s memory will fade quickly. Furthermore, unlike the previous goalkeeper. Maignan is very good with his feet and a great passer.

In defence AC Milan made the transfer of Fikayo Tomori permanent paying a hefty fee of 31.2 million euros after his impressive form last season. The English centre back has formed a rock solid partnership with Simon Kjaer. Florenzi arrives on loan to provide competition for Davide Calabria. Signing him permanently will cost 5 million. While Fode Balloe Toure was chosen as Theo’s back and joined from Monaco for 5 million as well.

The midfield is the most crowded department after the mercato. After long talks with Bresia, AC Milan signed Sandro Tonali on a permanent deal this summer for 7 million plus 3 in add-ons (in addition to the 10 million already spent). Surprisingly, Tiemoue Bakayoko returned for a second spell.

The French midfielder arrives on loan for two seasons. The Rossoneri have the option, that can obligatory, to sign him permanently for 15 million. Unfortunately, his arrival closed the space for Pobega. The Rossoneri were forced to loan him again to play continuously, this time at Torino. The last signing was Yacine Adli. Milan spent 10 million for his services but the 21-year-old will stay at Bordeaux until the end of the season. Adli will be under Stefano Pioli’s orders next year.

Olivier Giroud is the third Chelsea player to join AC Milan this summer. The Rossoneri spent a symbolic fee of 1 million (plus another in bonuses) to secure the services of the veteran French striker. Money well spent with Giroud finding the back of the net two times on his home debut against Cagliari. Pietro Pellegri is Maldini’s big bet. If he returns in his best physical form Pellegri could be a real surprise this season.

Junior Messias was AC Milan’s last summer signing. The Brazilian arrives on loan with option to buy for a total fee of 10 million. A late bloomer that had a great debut year in Serie A with Crotone. An attacking midfielder that also plays on the right wing. A versatile player that will be useful for both positions. A good dribbler with a precise shot from the distance, Messias is tasked to replace Hakan Calhanoglu.
