AC Milan looking at Dortmund defender to replace Romagnoli

AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli is set to leave at the end of the season and the club is already looking for his substitute.

Alessio Romagnoli seems to be getting more chances this season after falling down the pecking order last year. The Rossoneri captain has been a regular starter so far either alongside Fikayo Tomori or Simon Kjaer. Nevertheless, Pioli has full faith on the Tomori-Kjaer duo and Romagnoli is expected to leave at the end of the season.

There are no margins for his renewal and the Italian defender is set to leave as a free agent. AC Milan are already searching for his replacement. The new centre back will likely be a player within Elliott’s guidelines for age and cost and Dan-Axel Zagadou could be the right name.

According to reports by Weltfussball.com, AC Milan are monitoring closely the situation of Zagadou. The contract of the 22-year-old French defender expires at the end of the season. Borussia Dortmund have been in talks for a while but so far have been unable to reach an agreement.

Just like Romagnoli, Zagadou is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Under such advantageous circumstance the Rossoneri would be ready to sign him without paying a transfer fee to Borussia Dortmund. However, his knee problems are a cause for concern since Zagadu missed many matches last season because of a ruptured knee ligament.

The former PSG youngster has made 73 appearances with Borussia Dortmund in the last four seasons. The Germans will try to keep Zagadou but not at all costs. The Rossoneri will continue to remain alert on any updates.
