Revealed: AC Milan made summer offer for highly-rated midfielder

The Rossoneri have been following Nicolo Barella for a long time and nearly signed the Cagliari star midfielder this summer.

Calciomercato has unveiled a backstory on a proposal made by the old AC Milan management to Cagliari in the early summer. Before all the various corporate events followed, Massimiliano Mirabelli was looking for the right players to satisfy the demands of coach Gennaro Gattuso. Nicolo Barella was one of the targets on the notebook of the former Rossoneri sporting director, who had been scouting him for some time.

Mirabelli made an important bid to Cagliari at the time. The Rossoneri offered the services of Manuel Locatelli plus cash. According to reports, without the ownership problems of the Chinese, the negotiation would have had a positive outcome and today Barella would be commanding AC Milan’s midfield. In the end nothing happened and the former Milan Primavera starlet moved to Sassuolo instead. Meanwhile, interest in Barella is also strong from the new management.

However the Rossoneri risk entering a bidding war with many clubs keeping an eye on the 21 year old midfielder. In today’s market Cagliari rate the Italian between 30 and 35 million euros. A figure not too high considering today’s prices. Meanwhile, Leonardo and Paolo Maldini also follow other profiles, in particular Leandro Paredes (read here) has been identified as the successor of Lucas Biglia.
