AC Milan risk two European heavyweights in Champions draw

AC Milan will learn their Champions League opponent on Monday’s draw but the risk is high for the Italian champions.

The 4-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg allowed AC Milan to progress to the knockout round of the Champions League as the second squad in their group. The Rossoneri improved considerably on their last season standing when they were unable to progress.

On Monday, at 12:00 CET, the Champions League draw will be held in Nyon. The clubs that have finished first on their respective groups will face clubs that finished second in the standings. However, they can not face teams that have already played in the group and also teams from the same country.

Such conditions put AC Milan in a very difficult spot. The Rossoneri can play one between Bayer Munich, Manchester City, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Porto and Benfica. The German giants are the most probable opponent for Stefano Pioli’s squad followed by Manchester City.

The chances to face one of the two Portuguese clubs looks really slim.

Bayern Munich – 23,916%

Manchester City – 17,312%

Tottenham – 17,312%

Real Madrid – 14,009%

Benfica – 13,725%

Porto – 13,725%
