AC Milan consider sensational player return in January

AC Milan must find a replacement for Simon Kjaer. The Danish defender is expected to stay out for a very long time.

The injury of Simon Kjaer is an unexpected problem for AC Milan. The Denmark defender is expected to stay out for a very long time and very likely the season is over for him. An awful news for Stefano Pioli considering his importance on the pitch and the rock-solid partnership Kjaer he has created with Fikayo Tomori.

Kjaer’s absence will force AC Milan to enter the mercato for a new centre back. The management is considering a number of alternatives including the sensational return of Mattia Caldara.

AC Milan decided to loan out Caldara to Venezia after a disappointing 18 months spell at Atalanta. The 27-year-old centre back is having a very good season with the newly promoted side. Caldara has become a key player for coach Paolo Zanetti helping Venezia stay above the relegation zone so far.

It seems like Caldara has finally found back his best form after three years filled with physical problems. The management’s reasoning behind this option is simple: Caldara has played in Serie A for a long time and is already familiar with the AC Milan setting. However, there’s the Venezia obstacle.

Caldara joined Venezia on a season-long loan with the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season for 4 million. Venezia are fighting to stay in Serie A and convincing them to let go of one of their most important players in January will not be that easy for Maldini and company.
