Gazzetta: The only way to save Milan from UEFA
UEFA has decided to ban AC Milan from playing in Europa League for one season but there is still hope for the Rossoneri.
The much-feared verdict has unfortunately arrived. Although it was widely expected that AC Milan would get banned from Europa League this season it’s still hard to image the most triumphant Italian team not playing in Europe while at the same clubs like PSG and Manchester City who clearly have “lots of respect” for the Financial Fair Play are never hold accountable.
The Rossoneri have already announced that the club will appeal the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Red and Blacks will have between 10 to 21 days to file an appeal and that CAS represents the last and final verdict on the European fate of the Rossoneri.
To examine the case of AC Milan there will be three referees: one chosen by Milan, one chosen by UEFA and the impartial president. CAS Tribunal can confirm Nyon’s sentence, cancel it, block it or ask UEFA to reformulate it.
In short, it is not yet definitive that AC Milan will not be able to play in next season’s Europa League, but according to La Gazzetta the only move that can save the Rossoneri is the change of ownership. Only the arrival of a new financially stable investor, unlike Yonghong Li, could guarantee the business continuity so dear to UEFA. Obviously presenting new elements to CAS is no guarantee of success, but this seems to be the only card to play in order to hope for something positive.
