Genoa 1-2 AC Milan, player ratings

Goals by Theo Hernandez and Kessie, and a penalty save by Pepe Reina, helped AC Milan win three points after three consecutive defeats.

What a crazy match at the Luigi Ferraris stadium. Four red cards and two penalties in an absolute thriller and a fantastic save from Pepe Reina (who caused the penalty) to give AC Milan a very precious win after three consecutive defeats.

There are many problems to solve but perhaps today’s match showed the way Giampaolo should follow. The Rossoneri in the first-half were the same scared and timid team we have seen in recent games. However, two substitutions in the second-half changed the entire course of the match.

Immediately after the start of the second-half, Giampaolo decided to put in Rafael Leao and Lucas Paqueta, taking out Calhanoglu and Piatek. The move certainly paid off. Five minutes later Paqueta assisted Theo Hernandez while Leao won the penalty that was transformed to goal by Kessie.

AC Milan controlled the match until the very last moment when the referee awarded a dubious penalty in Genoa’s favor. Pepe Reina, whose error led to Genoa’s first goal, saved Schone’s shot in the 93rd minute.
