Napoli 2-1 Milan, player ratings

A proud AC Milan fall just short at Napoli. Romagnoli pulls one back but goals by Insigne and Zielinski give Napoli the win.

G. Donnarumma 6,5: Good as always, not much he could do on the two goals when he was left alone by the defenders. Saves a dangerous shot one on one against Mertens.

Musacchio 5.5: Clearly unable in marking Insigne, plus he receives little help from Borini. He grows during the game but not good enough.

Bonucci 6: Solid in defense he has regaining his best form. Excellent with some long range passes but the midfielders fail to support him and build on his play. Does more in pushing the whole team forward than the whole midfield.

Romagnoli 5,5: Scores a beautiful goal in the last minutes of the game but fails the offside trap on Insigne in Napoli’s first goal. Callejon had escaped him several times before the rossoneri conceded the first goal.

Borini 5: In Montella’s laboratory of experiments, today he fails to transformation into a right midfielder. Was sandwiched by the triangles of the Neapolitan players, he never finds the right co-ordinates of his game and misses all the crosses he tries to put inside the penalty area.

Kessie 5,5: Always present in the middle of the field at both stages of the game. His shots from the distance are far from accurate, and in some offensive plays he could have been more incisive.

Montolivo 6: In an absolutely inadequate team test, product of Montella’s yet another experimentation, is the only one who tries to bring order in midfield and give meaning to the Milanese maneuver.

Locatelli 5,5: A victim of the unconsciousness of Montella, who first deploys him as a mezzala and later as trequartista. In the offensive phase he fails to produce in that position.

Bonaventura 5: He is totally out of the match, never a proper cross, nor a winning dribbling, nor a play to penetrate the opponents defense. Perhaps his start from the first minute today was a mistake from Montella considering he returned after several weeks of stop.

Suso 6-: Is the most dangerous player of the Rossoneri, in two cases he tries from outside the box without too much precision unfortunately. A few minutes later Insigne scores and the Spaniard suffers a back injury that forces him to come out.

Andre Silva 6: The Portuguese possesses excellent technique and tries to capitalize on it. Unfortunately the team fails to support him and he is forced to abandon his area and often searches for the ball in midfield. Offers alternatives but lacks the finale touch.

Kalinic 4,5: Montella’s central striker were not used to scoring a lot and he is the living proof. Albiol and Koulibaly read well his movements up front. Rarely served from his teammates, too isolated.
