Why AC Milan don’t sack Giampaolo

Despite the disappointing defeat with Torino, after the one in the derby, it seems that Marco Giampaolo is not yet at risk of being sacked.

AC Milan in Turin were expected to be redeemed themselves following the k.o. in the derby against Inter and the first-half was certainly illusory. Finally we began to see a pleasant game, even with the usual difficulties in finalizing the many opportunities. But in the end, the Rososneri suffered another heartbreaking defeat.

When the team loses, obviously the coach is the first to get blamed and this is also the case with Marco Giampaolo. The Rossoneri coach has not particularly convinced at this start of the season with some of his choices quite questionable. Even yesterday against Torino, Giampaolo’s substitutions failed to make an impact. And given the result, it is normal for some criticism to fall on him.

In the first five rounds of Serie A, AC Milan have suffered three defeats (against Udinese, Inter and Torino) and have managed to get two (unconvincing) victories against the newly promoted Brescia and Hellas Verona. There were higher expectations during the summer given that il Diavolo aims to qualify for the Champions League. It is true that it is only the beginning of the season but the fans, and not only, expected to be in a better situation.

There are already those who believe that Giampaolo risks looseing his job but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport that it is not the case. Undoubtedly the management expects improvements and above all results, but it’s not time to think about Giampaolo’s sacking. AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini expressed the club’s confidence in the coach before the match with Torino. Despite the defeat against the Granata, the club’s position has not changed. Clearly, the trend must change and only positive results are expected against Fiorentina and Genoa.

Even Corriere della Sera believes that Giampaolo is not at risk. The management has taken into account that with a new coach at the beginning there could have been some difficulties, considering also the young age of the squad and a new footballing philosophy. There is still confidence in the former Sampdoria coach.

CorSera writes that AC Milan does not intend to disavow the project adopted in the summer and fire Giampaolo would go against this direction. It would mean disavowing oneself, after having announced that they have bet on this coach for well-considered specific reasons. Furthermore, the responsibilities are not all his.

There are certain players who are performing below expectations. On the pitch we have seen some errors that cannot be Giampaolo’s fault, who in any case must be capable to bringing out the best from the material he has at his disposal and make the best choices regarding the starting eleven and the substitutions.

It must also be considered that alternatives of a certain level are not easy to convince. There are some great coaches available like Allegri and Mourinho but many would be reluctant to take a squad like Milan in a situation like this. Furthermore, Elliott doesn’t like the idea of spending money for another coach.

AC Milan and Giampaolo continue ahead together with the management in support of the Italian coach. In the first-half with Torino significant improvements could be seen compared to the previous matches. Obviously Milan need more continuity over the 90 minutes and more impact in the offensive phase. The Rossoneri urgently need to redeem themselves on Sunday against Fiorentina.
